Dear Sandy Hollow Families,

We hope that the onset of the summer season finds you all safe and in good health.

The statistical data showing that the number of new COVID-19 cases is substantially decreasing and that things are finally improving is indeed very encouraging. The news that Governor Cuomo is slowly reopening the state is also very positive. While we have not yet received the final approval from the Governor and the Suffolk County Department of Health, the American Camp Association has issued their preliminary recommended guidelines. We have good reason to expect the Department of Health to accept the guidelines and issue their approval for camp to open. It is our intention to open Sandy Hollow with significant measures in place to promote safety and limit risk. Please understand that while we will do our very best to mitigate the risks, risks will inevitably remain no matter what we do.

Many families have called to ask what camp will look like when we open. We are in the process of formulating our safety and operational procedures that will be implemented this summer. Suffice to say, there will be a lot of hand washing, hand sanitizing, equipment sanitizing, and cleaning of restrooms and activity areas. Twice daily temperature checks will also be conducted for all campers and staff members.

Since we do not yet have the protocols from the department of health, we cannot give exact details of what camp will look like. However, we do believe that your child will still participate in most of the activities that camp has to offer as in summers past. It is recommended that we conduct as many outdoor activities as possible. Luckily, most of our activities are already held outdoors. This summer we will also incorporate additional outdoor arts and crafts areas.

At this point in time, campers will not be required to wear masks for most outdoor activities. However, we will ask campers to bring their masks daily for use in restrooms, changing cabins, and the art room. Masks will also be required on the bus.

While we must acknowledge that camp will be different this summer, we do believe your child will enjoy a fun-filled, creative, and active Sandy Hollow experience as always.

We encourage the use of our online registration process in order to secure your child’s spot at camp and so that we may plan accordingly. It is very possible that the state and county may impose limitations on our enrollment this summer. In addition, it will be perhaps more important than ever to forward your child’s medical immunization form before the start of camp.

As always, do not hesitate to call or email us with any further questions or concerns. We look forward to sharing Sandy Hollow’s 52nd season with our campers and their families.

Warm regards,

The Hughes Family
